Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 0 – $0

What if you could see and do certain things that would make you wealthy? What if you could document it day by day along the way so that others can get the opportunity of skipping all the hurdles you’ve gone through and try real ideas that actually makes them rich? This is going to be a blog about my journey to making millions of dollars starting from nothing. You are probably wondering how I’m going to do this, well guess what, so am I. All I have right now is a very very old HP laptop, free WiFi and a used techno android mobile phone. By the way I’m sleeping on my big brother’s couch, just so you know and I’m dead broke. Kinda cliche I know right, but so it is my life right now.

So just to give you a background or a summary, if you will, of my motivation and my reasons for doing this. I have in recent days been obsessed (actually binge-watched a lot of YouTube videos on how to make money without money, read a book about money and took a course on learning a high income skill) with how to make money without any money and my reasons are the fact that I don’t enjoy the old 9 to 5 job, I want actual financial freedom, I’m super broke and I want to actually find out the type of actionable knowledge that is out there for free and really works.

Here is why I may not see eye to eye with most of the so called millionaires out there whether self made or otherwise. They never tell you what they actually realistically did to make their first dollar later snowballing into millions. You always get the end part where they finally made the millions. They never show you what they actually did and how they went from one dollar to two and so on up to millions. And some of them even have the audacity to create and sell books or courses and talks further benefiting from the naive aspiring millionaire. Now don’t get me wrong though. I’m not saying there aren’t legit millionaires who show us what they did, I’m just saying they are too vague or too general when revealing what they did step by step, if they ever do.

I am going to dedicate each and every day of my life from today (8th February 2020) to research and try every single idea I can possibly come across and that’s worthy of testing, in order to prove to myself and you that it is possible and that it can be done. I would like to take this journey with you and not just let you be a passive reader watching things happen. Because I’m tired of the quality of life I have right now and so are you and we deserve better.

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 352 – -$151

Sometimes things don’t always turn out the way we want them or expect them to and that’s okay. In fact it is normal. Reminds us that we are only human and we can do only so much. I’ve often wondered whether someone can will something into existence much like the laws of attraction proponents do. I am always skeptical however open minded I try to be. In my opinion, only willing without action bears mediocre results. Something that the laws of attraction might have forgotten to mention.

I however, get the overall idea of Dr. Wattles in his book “The Science of Getting Rich”. He emphasizes belief as the foundation and reinforces it with actions that begin to lead one toward the path of riches. He kind of speaks to me in that sense. I digress!

Last week I managed to earn a dollar yeey!! I’m not sure if I can replicate that again and again but finally something happened. Someone wanted an audio fixed and I offered to do it for the low price of a dollar. Although, looking back I wonder if they would have paid more had I asked for it. I know I kind of undervalued my skills in the moment. It was weird though, because I was a bit caught between fear of seeming greedy and fear of losing the sale.

Anyway, Fiverr and Redbubble are still a dead end so I’m going to take a very long break from those. Maybe I’ll come back to them later. I just feel it’s time for me to pivot into something else, you can only try so many times. My strategy or skill doesn’t seem to be in demand so I need to try something else.

Which is why I’ve gone into full-stack web development and maybe later programming. When I think of the future I think technology. When I think technology I think programmers, software developers/engineers and designers. So that’s where I’ve decided to focus all my efforts. Remember when I used to wonder how rich people managed to focus on one thing until they succeeded? Well I think I might have just found that for myself. Strange how it happened though. Over 2 years of cluelessly jumping from one thing to another. I guess it’s true what they say, you have to actually dive in to find out if you can or can’t swim.

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 345 – -$152

Men, is it hard to grow a social media following or what. Last week I tried being active on twitter and instagram and I have to admit it wasn’t what I expected. In my mind I was thinking of all these cool captions that would blow people’s minds and I would get a ton of engagement and followers. To my surprise, crickets! I mean the captions weren’t that good and I didn’t have a lot of people following me so.

Tragic as that may have been, I learnt a thing or two. You have to have a following to get engagements. And you can’t get a following if you don’t follow people or follow back those who’ve already followed you. Social media has changed massively. Gone are the days when you would post something and place a hashtag at the end then get stupid likes and shares even without followers. I guess I’ll have to go it another way. Or maybe social media ain’t my thing, I don’t know I’ll have to find out.

Anyways, last week was a bit eventful. I sent a couple of prospects cold DMs on twitter, maybe not a couple, it was like 40-50 or thereabout. I got 2 replys. One wanted me to help them with a logo, for free of course. The other invited me to apply for an internship program she was running. Sadly it was only available for folks in the US, bummer! So for the one who wanted a logo I went ahead and made 2 logos, he ended up choosing one which he was happy with. He even tweeted about it. That was nice of him.

On Fiverr I’m still hearing crickets but not to lose hope, we’ll crack it. Also if you were thinking about starting a gig on Fiverr just know I’ve been at it for 3 months now without a single order. That should get you critically analysing all those videos and blogs that say it’s easy to start. Although again I might have chosen the “wrong” gig, who knows!

Good news, I got 2 favorites on redbubble last week, how cool is that. No sales as of now but again I have a good feeling about it so fingers crossed. I’ll still be uploading designs waiting for that first sale.

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 338 – -$152

Hullo, and welcome. Grab a snack and get comfortable. Actually, you don’t need a snack this usually is pretty short and sometimes sweet. Lol! So something funny happened to me this past week. I had an idea I wanted to try. Actually, my daily 3-minute journal brought it up to my attention. Usually, there’s a section that asks me what new ideas I’d like to try for the day and then I write whatever crazy idea is on my mind at the time. Most of the time I don’t I don’t know why but I just leave it blank. Maybe I’m not as adventurers as I thought!

So on this one particular day I come up with a brilliant idea, well it’s not that brilliant or new it just involves me cold DM’ing random people on Twitter. Mainly asking for their business in relation to my gigs on Fiverr. I don’t know what it was but I didn’t quite get around to doing it which was really weird. I mean I have never had an idea so clear in my mind and its execution so simple. Yet I never actually followed through. You know what, I actually went and did the opposite of what I was meant to do. Nothing!

Which got me thinking, was that the fear of success? I was so sure it would work or at least elicit a response or two. Because I can tell you for sure it wasn’t the fear of failure, believe me, I know what that feels and looks like. Did I subconsciously self-sabotage? I really can’t explain my state of mind at the time. Anyway, that happened!

This brings us to today. Being that I never took the leap to ask for business from prospective clients, you can guess how much I made. Yeap, nadda! I haven’t made much headway with Fiverr despite steadily getting impressions. I’ve been keeping up with the uploads on Redbubble but still no sales. And no favorites! How weird is that?

By the way, the guy that inboxed me on LinkedIn about a job was a hoax. I don’t get why someone would do that. Anyways I reactivated my Upwork profile to try and drum up some business. I sent like 5 proposals but none of them have gotten back to me. I’m still patient and of course, I’ll keep you posted.

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 331– -$152

Hallo and welcome to this week’s blog post. I’m feeling a little unmotivated today, but the show must go on. Sometimes it’s hard to keep going when you aren’t receiving any immediate cues. Like views if you’re doing youtube, blogs, advertising or likes and/or shares if you’re on social media. In my case, it’s sales. I’m not seeing any numbers and it’s kinda messing up my vibe. I mean I want to continue doing it but I just can’t tell if I’m on the right track or on a totally different mode of transportation altogether, going by that analogy.

Someone commented on LinkedIn saying something like the most rewarding ventures are the ones without immediate returns while the least rewarding ones are the ones with immediate returns. I am inclined to agree with that statement mainly because I’d like to relate but also because I’d like to think that most entrepreneurs would understand. Not only entrepreneurs but also just anybody who starts something to achieve a long-term goal.

Pharrel Williams (award winning hip-hop producers) once said in a song that he beleives in miracles but he doesn’t believe in waiting for them, you have to make that shit happen. I believe this is true. In order to achieve something you must work for it, working for it in this case is making the miracle happen. I don’t much believe in the law of attraction but I believe in the fundamentals behind it. You can’t simply wish for something or strongly hope for it until it happens. You have to slowly begin to do things that position you to ‘attract’ what you want.

I am not seeing much movement for now but I believe I’m slowly ‘attracting’ my miracles. I already have a system in place and I have faith in the system. All I have to do now is deliberate practice and I’m well on my way to $1,000,000.

By the way, someone offered me a job on LinkedIn and has since ghosted me. I’m not sure if she was for real or just another spammer. I’ll keep you posted on that in case of any developments.

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 324– -$152

Hi, welcome to the weekly unsolicited report of my financial experiment, the name is Arnold. But first, the weekly rant (in my best news anchor impression). It’s always fun when people romanticize entreprenership. Start a business, make a tonne of money, and live happily ever after. However there’s always one question we forget to ask ourselves, and this was brought to my attention somewhere on the internet (I can’t quit remember where). And it goes something like this, will you be okay if everything doesn’t go as planned? In other words will you be okay failing and staying in/returning to the same state as you were before you begun?

When you contemplate and marinate on this simple question, you will be shocked at the decision you come to. I never really quit took this question to the test. Now you might say, oh well I guess I’ll just try. After all, it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. It’s a strange analogy but you get my point. What you don’t know is that you might be setting yourself up for wasting months if not years at the very least. Not to mention the potential mental energy that you might be drained of during the whole process. People have lost families, lost lives, lost friends, lost their dignity and place in society over entrepreneurship but very little of that gets played in the media.

Now if this sounds like fun to you then I guess we’ve both lost our minds. In a weird way, I’m okay with all of that. Not necessarily okay, but it’s a risk I’m willing to stomach if it comes to it. This might be mostly because I don’t have much to lose and becaause of the very steep upside when I win (notice how I said when and not if, I’m being overconfident a little in a good way). With all of this at the back of my mind, I would like to employ smart money moves as I grow.

I would also like to learn to have an eye for potential. Be it in ideas or in life generally. So that I can spot something that is sure to fail regardless of the amount of money it might generate in the short term. Also to be able to spare myself the heartache of getting into those kinds of deals in the first place. I also want to learn the hardest part, grit! Patience and perserverence has been known to be the common denominator among successful people. So I’d like to learn that too!

Now onto what’s important. Why am I still -$152 in profits you ask, well it’s mostly because luck is still playing the dodgy game of hide and seek with me. I’m upto 53 designs on Redbubble but still no sales and no new favorite. I guess the algorithm on Redbubble hates me now or something. The same is the case for Fiverr although this time I got another click on one of my 3 gigs. No order still but it’s a good sign.

I still haven’t gotten any more responses on the cold emailling spree I went on. Have they already marked me as spam? We’ll never know. I hope not though! I’m having another one of those stroke of genius moments where I come up with an awesome idea only to get crickets. That not withstanding, I’m thinking I try either Quora or Reddit but not with the overly salesy approach because I know those sites shun that. I’ll try to be a bit helpful where relevant and occassionally plug in my gigs and see where the dominos fall. Wish me luck!

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 317– -$152

Have you ever tried recording your dreams as soon as you wake up? I tried this last week and after reading the things I wrote in my journal, I’m convinced without a shadow of a doubt that I am an alien. Yap, absolutely, 100%, no doubt in my mind. I mean who dreams about those kinda things? I’m honestly “shook”. I should be dreaming of normal things like getting an A on a math test or acing a chemistry quiz. What’s that? Normal people don’t dream those either? Okay, I guess it’s just me then.

Anywho, I hope you had a great week, if you didn’t and you’re reading this, then you have another chance this week. Just take it a step at a time, it’s okay to have bad days or even weeks, what’s not okay is sitting and nursing our failures. I read somewhere that people who succeed and worked hard (I prefer working smart) to get where they are now don’t even celebrate because they know the real success was overcoming those bad days and keeping the momentum going even though it seemed like they would fail.

So, I finally opened a youtube channel, something I have been putting off for a while now. Granted, I haven’t uploaded any video yet as I’m still stuck in analysis paralysis and wanting everything to be perfect, it’s still a move in the right direction. Also, my camera shyness might be a major factor in my stalling tactics. The link will be at the end of this post, follow the channel if you wanna encourage me to go ahead and do it.

Now let’s summarize last week’s events and see what went down and what I’ve done so far. So I started tracking the email contacts of prospective clients and I’ve sent like 18 contacts, gotten 3 replies, and lost 3 (mainly because their emails aren’t working anymore). Of the 3 who replied only one asked for my proposal while the others haven’t gotten back to me yet. So fingers crossed on those. Of the 12 none of them have even sent a message acknowledging the receipt of my email. So that’s a bummer! I will still be contacting others this week so hopefully, some will turn up.

Fiverr is still slow, with no order despite a 15% increase in impressions. I’m still not sure how to go about it. I might try researching a bit to see how others got their first orders. Or maybe I should change the gigs altogether. I don’t know. We’ll see.

Last week I didn’t get any favorites on Redbubble (sad face emoji) but I uploaded about 15 more designs, so that’s something. I also got on Twitter and Instagram to open accounts for my Redbubble shop. So far I have about 13 followers on Instagram and almost 11 or 10 on Twitter, and I’m hoping to grow to 50 this week.

Other than that, still, no sales as the balance above is still intact. I have a really good feeling about the Twitter and Instagram thing though, I think we might see our first sales coming from there.

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 310– -$152

Well well well what do we have here? (I love this awesome line by villains in cartoons, so childish I know lol). Oh, it’s just me coming to you live (of course not really live, as you’ll be reading this much later) from this side of this big weird circle we call Earth. I really hope you are safe because (not to be professor doom or anything like that), there are rumors of another you know what, that has mutated and is resistant to the vaccines available right now! Just be safe, keep your distance, wash your hands, you know do all that stuff the pros recommend.

I just had to get that out of the way so I can use this phrase “I did my part now it’s your turn”, don’t know if I made any sense there. Moving on swiftly, I am very excited to start this new chapter in my life where I become more productive. By the way, have you ever come across an idea or some stuff that you thought, “wow this is it, this is where it all starts”? Or is it just plain ol’ me? I’m sure you have, I can’t be the only alien on earth right? Right? Right? Damn, I really am!!

But seriously though, I found this cool app, or is it software, maybe program! Whichever, and it’s called Notion, not sure if you’ve ever heard of it but I recommend you check it out. I found it on Ali Abdaal’s YouTube channel. It’s really something. I can confidently say I’ve been more productive in the last few days than I ever was in the past. It is like a whole life planner. I have my daily task planner, a journal, a reading list (articles, podcasts, books), a habit tracker, and even a personal finance tracker. How cool is that!! Also go check out this mobile app called Forest, super helpful when you want to focus on a particular work or study for 25 minutes.

Now onto what you are really here for, this week’s update. I am up to 11 favorites on redbubble, yes one more this week. And so far I have about 32 designs up. Still no sales, but this is a long game, I am just building up the foundation for Q4. Once we get there I won’t be surprised if we do really big numbers, but right now patience and consistency are my mottoes. I’ve also been doing light social media sharing but I’m thinking I should ramp it up.

Fiverr is also still a bit slow although I got a bit more impressions. My first gig has 94 impressions but no click and by extension no order, the second has 45 with 1 click and no order, and finally the third is up 67 impressions also with 1 click and no order. However, I tried to step up my marketing game by hitting various YouTubers’ inboxes with proposals regarding my gigs. I think I’ve done like 6 or 7 emails (I should track these in Notion) so far with 2 replies. 1 thought I was in Dallas and was looking to engage my skills, but sadly I ain’t. And the other said, actually I spoke to the assistant and there was really not much she could do except ask for my proposal and get back to me at a later date, which I willfully gave. I’ll still continue with this and keep you up to date next week. Wish me luck!!

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 303– -$152

Believe it or not, I almost forgot it is Monday. I feel like sometimes I just coast through the week without knowing what day it is. Oh hey, sorry I started rambling for a sec there without noticing you. How’ve you been? How was your week? How about your weekend? Cool? I hope so!

Somehow I’m getting more favorites on my redbubble store but still no purchase. That’s kinda weird, right? Or am I being as impatient as my usual self? I’m up to 10 favorites with 25 designs. I also still don’t have any followers. I know, I still also can’t help but get caught up in those vanity metrics. It surprises me the way we crave likes and favorites and follows etcetera, more than hugs or personal chats with our loved ones. I’m a victim too don’t get me wrong, it’s just crazy strange that’s all.

Speaking of worth it (my near lazy attempt to segue out of that rabbit hole), I am still worth nadda in my Fiverr account. Yes, still no order despite having almost half a century of impressions (trying to make the impressions sound more lol). I do think I have to get a bit more creative with this Fiverr thingy. Sitting waiting around for an order ain’t doing me much. I will have to start getting on social media to try and acquire one or more customers.

So, a couple of weeks ago I hinted at starting a YouTube channel, so I went ahead and… failed to start the channel. I’m still feeling a little iffy about it like it’s not meant for me, and I’m better off not doing it. But that’s the exact reason why I should do it anyway right? I don’t know, I really don’t. But I’ll still keep it in mind for when I finally muster the courage to go for it.

It’s somehow a slow start this 2021 and it shows just by the way things are teasing to go back to normal. I hope it does soon so we can change the negative balance up there. I need to start making some change, I need that gwala like yesterday!

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 296 – -$152

Hey you. I wish this was like a personal letter or email so that I could address you by your first name. I feel like we’ve known each other for some time now and that would be kinda cool, don’t you think? What’s that? No? We’re not friends? Oh okay (dies a little inside)!!

Anywho, I have been updating my redbubble store for the past week with some new typography designs. They’re just simple texts by the way. Oh, I got two more favorites, so that’s something. No sales yet hence the above balance but again keeping the positive energy going, I think we’re heading in the right direction.

I’m getting kind of bored with my negative balance up there, so I was thinking I switch it up a little. Actually I thought about it and decided why not. I’m sure if you are in the “trenches” of the hustle like me, then you’ve probably already heard of Fiverr. Yes the big ol’ badass Fiverr. It’s a marketplace where you can get professional tasks for your small business or company handled cheaply.

Well the good news is that if you are looking to make some extra cash, and you have yourself some handy dandy skills like logo design, graphic design, video editing just to name a few, then it is the place for you. Luckily I am not too shabby when it comes to video editing, transcripting, proof reading or even logo design. And yap you guessed it, I made gigs for those exact skills.

I know, I know, again it is a marketplace and these places always seem to have enormous competition to say the least. But we gotta try right, let it be known that we tried. But we are not just going in there blindly. A bit of research is advisable to find a not too crowded gig to better your chances of getting an order. So far I have like 21 impressions and a click but no order yet so I’m optimistic.

Step-by-Step Guide to Millions – Day 289 – -$152

I am still unable to see my analytics, haven’t quite found a way to check them yet, so I guess I’ll have to get used to how redbubble works. I uploaded like 5 more designs and I’m in the process of adding about 2 more maybe 3. It is kind of hard to do the same thing over and over when uploading the designs, I wish there was a way to automate the whole process. Quite frankly it’s getting monotonous.

So the good news is that I got about 4 favorites on my designs last week, that must be a good sign right? I hope so. Though it seems those favorites are from other sellers, when they should be from customers. I heard it is very easy for someone to duplicate your design and sell more than you, so I don’t know if I should be worried. I’m not that good in case you’re wondering so there is infact nothin to worry about. No sales as of yet though but I’m pretty confident we are heading in the right direction. I’ll keep adding designs to increase my chances of getting sales and then we can work from there.

I was watching a video on youtube from this channel called valuetainment and I must say the guy knows some things. He made the whole process of making $1,000,000 so simple that I was like why did it seem so big of a deal. I know you’ve heard before that, if your dreams don’t scare you then they are probably not big enough. And to me making $1,000,000 is, as I’m sure it is to most of you. But he just made it so simple. Of course there is also the whole behind-the-scenes process that involves you actually putting in the work and having the right mentality, but regardless.

He didn’t talk about any secret formula or some kind of a genius trick, he just put it in plain old math. Yeah I know, I was shocked too (sarcasm, check). Just simple math, to make a million in a year, you need to make about $10,000 in a month. To make $10,000 a month, you need to make about $300 a day. Meaning whatever you do or are doing to make money daily, you just need to make it so you produce $300 a day.

And so the question comes, well what do I need to do to make $300 a day? In my case, since I’m selling mainly t-shirts, and because I’m operating on a 20% profit margin (@ $20/shirt), I need to sell about 75 t-shirts ({$300 / [20/100 x $20]}). Not too hard right? If I was selling something that made more, do the math and you’ll see how many fewer things you’d have to sell in a day to make $300. You get the point right?

This was an eye opener for me, my aha moment so to speak. How simple was that? I need to get abit more creative to figure out how to start selling. From there the sky is the limit for me. Nay, space is the limit for me.
